John Kent Campbell, Sr. died on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at age 77 in St. Luke's Medical Center in Meridian, Idaho.

John was born in St. Luke's hospital in Boise, Idaho on February 20, 1940 to Olive M. (Hoar) and Allan Justin Campbell, Sr.  He grew up in Boise and McCall, Idaho.  He was educated in Boise and also attended military school in Faribault, Minnesota.  At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1957 to 1961.  He then went to the College of Idaho and earned a degree in marketing, graduating in 1966.

In 1967, John began his career with the Forest Service as a business management trainee stationed in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.  He found his niche in the procurement and contracting field and served in the Forest Service in Missoula, Montana, Billings, Montana, Ogden, Utah, Boise, Idaho and Atlanta, Georgia.  He spent the last 11 years of his career in the Office of the Secretary of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.  When he retired in June 1994, he was head of Procurement Policy for the Department of Agriculture.

John and his East Coast born-and-bred wife, Roz, were married in 1989 and after Roz retired in 1995, they moved to John's beloved McCall.  John was fond of telling everyone that the move to McCall was non-negotiable.  He only had to bring Roz to McCall one time before she was ready to relocate.

John loved to snow and water ski; hunt and shoot; and fish.  He always had a boat and loved to be on the water.

John's godfather was Frank A. Rhea, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho.  John served as an acolyte and was a member of the Order of St. Vincent's.  Though he did not attend services in his later years, he believed in God and lived a caring life.  He loved people and always went out of his way to be kind and compassionate.

John was predeceased by his parents Allan J. Campbell, Sr. and Olive Campbell Sinclair; sisters Betty Lou Campbell and Jane Sinclair, brother Allan J. Campbell, Jr., stepfather Jack Sinclair, and his daughter Debbie Maness.  He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Roz; his adored son John Kent Campbell, Jr. and John's wife Jill; his granddaughters Rebecca and Hope; his niece Thaona Garber and her husband Ryan; his sister-in-law Kim Campbell; and his much-loved Labrador Sunny.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke's McCall and St. Luke's Meridian for the outstanding and compassionate care John received during his illness.  John died on his own terms and was at peace.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1001 Gamble Rd., McCall, ID with The Rev. William Brown officiating.  Interment with Military Funeral Honors will immediately follow in the McCall Cemetery.
