Dawn Adele Moudy was born on March 5, 1953, in Weiser, Idaho, to Mable Kay (Mike) Barkell and Ralph Seeliger. When they divorced, Dawn and her mother moved to McCall, Idaho, her favorite place in the world.
From the beginning, Dawn was always a very responsible child who took care of many of the daily household chores of cooking, cleaning and watching her three little brothers while her mom worked. Dawn could cook like a pro while most of her friends were still just playing with dolls.
In 1970, Dawn married the love of her life, Ken Moudy, and the next year had a baby girl, Tracy. Their son, Clint, was born seven years later, in 1978. As a wife and mother, Dawn threw herself into the responsibility and gave it her all. Homemade clothes, breads, quilts, meals...you name it, if Dawn wanted to do something, anything, she would give it a try until she had simply mastered the task.
Many people met Dawn through her love of gardening, which stemmed from her grandmother, Silvia McClain. Once again, when Dawn decided to give something a try, she jumped in with both feet. Not only did she learn to garden, but she was easily a self-taught botanist. She loved the Master Gardener's program, completing every level possible until she was an "Advanced Master Gardener". Her own garden looked professionally landscaped, but also her friends' gardens and many of the parks around McCall because of Dawn. She loved giving plant starts, and we hope that you will still think of Dawn when you see the beautiful flowers that she shared with so many.
Dawn was a clerk at UPS for many years, but spent many more hours volunteering her time. We cannot even remember all of the organizations that Dawn volunteered for each year as there were so, so many. She gave readily of her time, her resources and took on the leadership roles without a thought. Dawn did not want to just live life, she wanted to make life better. Even now, there is a whole section of gardening books at the McCall Public Library, donated by Dawn Moudy. We are sure that she is watching from heaven and smiling as she sees people enjoying her beloved collection of books.
Alzheimer's disease took Dawn from us in the absolute prime of her life. Through all of her care, Ken stayed right beside her. He never wanted to put her in a nursing home, and he never did. Dawn was able to live out her life on their ranch, just as she had hoped. Her feistiness gone, but her best friend always beside her. We are thankful that she did get to meet her two granddaughters, Erin and Lauren, while she could still truly know them.
Dawn is survived by her husband of almost 45 years, Ken; her daughter, Tracy (Dennis); her son, Clint; her granddaughters Erin and Lauren; her brothers John, Tom, and Pat Roberts; and her very special aunt, Julie McClain Schwane.
A private, family celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. We hope that you will consider giving a donation to the Valley County Museum in Roseberry (Long Valley Preservation Society) in Dawn's name as the museum was very special to her.
