Dick Harris Clay

Dick H. Clay was born on Dec. 18, 1930 to Henry and Catherine (Katie) Clay at the old family ranch in Meadows Valley. He grew up on the ranch that was homesteaded by his grandfather Thomas Clay in 1862. He loved riding and breaking horses and playing with his brothers on the ranch. He graduated from Meadows Valley High School in 1949 then spent a few years riding on the rodeo circuit having fun, breaking broncos and winning an assortment of all-around cowboy awards and belt buckles. He worked for the Circle C Ranch at Brownlee and locations in Hells Canyon and the Maynard Place on the Salmon River.
He married Margery Glenn of Council on June 22, 1953 in Lovelock, NV. They raised 5 children at the ranch. Dick had a deep love for wildlife, nature, his animals, his family and the ranch.
Dick married his love, Wanda June Liggett on April 30, 2005 in Weiser, ID They spend his remaining years together.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents Henry & Katie, his siblings Margaret Shuck, Tommy, Ed, Frank, Albert Clay and wife of 48 years Margery and son Edward Clay.
He is survived by his wife June, brother Larry (Hazel) Clay, children Carmen (Gavin) Gil of Cameron, WI, Loretta Clay of Wilder, ID, Diann (Rob) Dunham of Clayton, ID, Darrell (LaVon) Clay of New Meadows and step son Dwight (Denise) Liggett of New Meadows, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are provided by Heikkila Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held Sat Sept 14, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Meadows Valley Cemetery.
