Gerald Edwin Winkle

Jerry Winkle, 82, of Cascade, Idaho passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021.  A memorial will be held this summer (date and time to be announced).

Jerry was born in Los Angeles, California on February 28, 1939.  He was reared in Los Angeles, and graduated from Westchester High School in 1957.  After high school he attended Loyola University and the University of California Los Angeles.

Having had enough of schooling, he saw an interesting billboard in downtown Los Angeles and immediately signed up for the Police Academy in Los Angeles, joining the Los Angeles Police Department, West Los Angeles Division, in 1962, where he stayed until 1983.

Jerry married the love of his life, Robie Feiger, on July 25, 1976, retired from the LAPD in 1983 and they moved to Cascade, Idaho, where they built their home in Pine Lakes Ranch subdivision.

Jerry enjoyed managing and working the cattle on the ranch for several years and served on the PLR board as President.

He moved on to serving on the Valley County Planning and Zoning Commission for 9 years, and then was elected as a Valley County Commissioner for 6 years.  Jerry also worked as a substitute teacher at Cascade High School for over 15 years.  He thoroughly enjoyed the kids and the feeling was mutual.  He was the commencement speaker at the 2005 graduation ceremony at Cascade High School.

Always on the hunt for ways to get involved in the Cascade Community, he was a member of Valley County Search and Rescue (originally Valley County Sheriff’s Posse),  Cascade EMT, and member of the Cascade Schools Educational Foundation.

Jerry’s sense of humor and colorful use of words will be missed by everyone who had the fun of knowing him.  Kudos to those who never got sucked into one of his “stories.”
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Velman and Rae Winkle, and his sister Patricia Winkle.

Jerry leaves behind his wife of almost 45 years, Robie; his daughters, Cynthia (Eric) Gerber and Jeri Lee Fiedler, a son, Ronald Winkle; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
