Jeffrey Schrag Skillern 1970-2026
Jeffrey Schrag Skillern died at the family cabin in McCall on May 17, 2026, one day before his 56th birthday. He was born May 18,1970 and at age one month was adopted by Bill and Flora Skillern in Spearfish, South Dakota. We moved to Boise, Idaho when he was 15 months old where he was later joined by his sister, Shannon.
Jeff attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Boise High School and then took some classes at BSU, and the University of Utah.
Jeff had a very adventurous spirit and loved riding his Big Wheel as a child. Our favorite story when he was 5 years old was when he rode his Big Wheel from our house on Warm Springs, crossed Broadway, way across BSU campus to see his dad at his office. We were upset with him for leaving the house but so proud of him for finding his dad’s office over a mile away at age 5.
Skiing was his passion. His dream was to eventually participate in the Olympics. While those dreams were never realized he parlayed his love of skiing into a love of coaching and enjoyed coaching youth for several years.
Jeff married Jamie Scott in 1999. They had a son, Bode and later got a divorce. He later had a daughter, Isla.
Being an entrepreneur was in his blood. He loved to create and design. An invention of a hydration back pak resulted in him owning his own business, Polarpak. He also designed one for his son, called the Bode bag.
For several years Jeff also made things from ski poles, everything from chimes, fireplace tools, ice scrappers, tables, etc. He gave many of them away and also sold them.
A beautiful sunset, sunrise, animal, or scenery were often captured on camera because of his love of photography . He also enjoyed playing the piano and the guitar.
Jeff will be greatly missed by his son, Bode, daughter, Isla, parents Bill and Flora Skillern, sister Shannon and her husband Troy Mills and their daughter Makayla, aunts, uncles and cousins and two foster sisters , Kim and Gwen.
