Patricia "Patsy" Frances Schreuer

December 28, 1937 — May 1, 2025

Boise, Idaho

Patricia “Patsy” Frances (Schreuer) Hess was born on December 28, 1937 on a small farm near Walnut, Kansas. Beloved daughter to Harold “Shorty” Schreuer and Alice Fowler the youngest of eight children. Patricia passed away on May 1, 2025 in Boise, Idaho. She had been courageously battling Alzheimer’s Disease for over a decade. She was 88 years old.

Patricia was laid to rest by her next of kin in a Catholic graveside service at the McCall Cemetery May 31st, 2025 . McCall was a very dear and special place to Patricia for most of her life here in Idaho. If you’d like to honor and celebrate Patsy, sing a song, dance and clap your hands like nobody's watching, raise a glass in love and joy, always be kind to children and animals, stay strong in your faith and never give up.

Patricia set an example of courage, love and tenacity for everyone she met. Aside from the busy chores which accompany childhood spent on a farm, there was always time for fun. From her favorite pig, Jenny, to circus-level tricks performed on her horse, Mollie, Patricia grew up surrounded by loving sisters and plenty of joyful singing. A one-bedroom farmhouse complete with a pump-handle kitchen faucet near the Neosho River housed the entire family! She told stories of her childhood when, on occasions, the river would rise. Promptly, they would load all of the children into the wagon and make a run for higher ground. This hardscrabble upbringing gave her true grit and big dreams. Patsy graduated in 1955 from St. Patrick’s High School in Walnut, KS. Later, she entered nursing school with several of her sisters. Upon graduating as an R.N. from Mount Carmel Hospital School of Nursing in 1961, she made a run for the sunny shores of San Diego, California where her sister Dorothy resided. While living there, she met Richard Newton. They soon married, relocated to Boise, Idaho and had two children: John and Julia. Patricia worked as an emergency room nurse, nursing home nurse, summer camp nurse in both Canada and McCall, Idaho and finally as a school nurse for the Boise School District where she retired after touching thousands of lives in countless, meaningful ways. Patsy loved the children she served, and had a heart a mile wide for the downtrodden and underprivileged. Later on in life, she met and married Francis Hess Jr. and was supportive of him in his journey to become a deacon in the Catholic Church. Patricia was a lifelong and devout Catholic who tried to live by the teachings of Jesus each and every day. Additionally, she was an amazing talent at her many endeavors. She was an accomplished vocalist, guitarist, banjoist, chef, horsewoman and artist. She was the kind of mom whose unshakable love we never questioned. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and friend and she shall be dearly missed.

Patricia was the youngest child in her family and will now be reunited with them, along with her dear parents, in Heaven. She is survived by her children, John Newton and Julia Jenkins as well as two step-children, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and a community of people whom she mentored and loved dearly.Patricia was preceded in death by her late husband, Francis Hess Jr., her parents and seven siblings.
