Terrance "Terry" Michael Ryan

Terrance Michael Ryan, “Grandpa Terry”, of McCall, Idaho, passed away from natural causes on September 20, 2019.  He was 77 years old.

Terry was born in Denver, Colorado on June 3, 1942.  He later moved to Southern California, graduating from Culver City High School and then the University of Southern California, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts.

After college, he started a lifelong career as a commercial electrician.  Terry became a master electrician, holding master’s licenses in multiple states, and was a longtime member of and lifetime advocate of the IBEW, the national electrical workers union.

On May 26, 1986, he married Karen Batt in McCall.  They enjoyed the next 33 years of his life together.  During this time, they spent 18 years in Olympia, Washington where they built a wonderful home on Mud Bay and Terry spent several years working and consulting on electrical projects at Fort Lewis.

He was a passionate outdoorsman.  Terry loved to fish, hunt and play golf and he excelled at all.  He traveled the West to hunt and fish – from Canada to México and all over the Western U.S.  He was a golf instructor in California and hit a “hole in one” 7 times! Terry was known for his sweet golf swing and his incredible wing shooting ability when hunting any variety of waterfowl or upland birds.  Eventually their passion for México led Terry and Karen to Rincón de Guayabitos, a small coastal community north of Puerto Vallarta.  What started as “winter getaways” soon became their beautiful second home.  21 winters were spent in Rincón, and many times the home was filled with family and friends for the holidays.

Eventually they sold their home in Olympia and Terry and Karen moved back to McCall, enjoying their summers on the McCall golf course and winters in México.  Despite his failing health, Terry was able to make the trip to Rincón even last year.

Terry is survived by his children: Christine, Jennifer and James, all residing in the Sacramento, CA area; wife Karen Ryan and step-daughters: Keri (George) Crookham, Jenifer Batt (Brandon Lien) and Julie (Greg) Gilchrist, and numerous grandchildren.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Florence Ryan and his brother, John Ryan.
