JANET K. DURAN
Janet Kathleen Duran, passed away on March 4, 2022 in McCall, Idaho from a sudden heart attack.
Janet was born July 28, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN to Carlene and USN CDR John Thompson. As part of a naval family, Jan spent her youth being able to experience living many places including Georgia, California, Virginia, and Japan. After graduating high school, Janet attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO. There she made many dear friends as a part of Delta Zeta sorority and met her future husband, Tom.
After college, the couple spent the next 17 years in Grand Junction, CO where they welcomed 3 children and Jan was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. In 1986, they relocated to Las Vegas. Jan was hired to work clerical for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, first in Records and then in Criminal Intelligence. She genuinely enjoyed her 23 years at Metro and found the work very rewarding. After retiring, Jan & Tom moved to Idaho to be able to spend time with their grandchildren.
Janet will be remembered fondly as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother known for her love of reading, fashion, and live shows, her excellent sewing, trivia, and cooking skills, as well as her gift of gab.
Janet is survived by her husband Thomas, sons Jason (Dena) Duran of McCall, ID, Jon (Tiffany) Duran of Bastrop, TX, daughter Katie (Jared) Samaniego of Las Vegas, NV; cherished grandchildren Dante, Drayton, Sophia, and Sabrina; brothers John, Donald, and Jim and sisters Nancy, Elizabeth, and Mary Ann; and close nephew Gary. She was predeceased by both parents & her beloved cocker spaniels Stella and Missy.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at 10:40 am at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. A reception will be held afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Las Vegas Valley Humane Society, Meals on Wheels America, or the McCall Library Foundation.
