Lawrence "Vic" Armacost Obituary

Lawrence Victor ‘Vic’ Armacost aged 85 of New Meadows Idaho passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 24, 2022.  The funeral service will be held on April 9th at 2:00pm at New Meadows Methodist Church, Joe Eisenbrandt will be officiating.  Burial will follow at the Meadows Valley Cemetery at 4:00pm.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by the McCall Funeral Home.

Vic was born in Council Idaho on June 17th 1936.  Victor earned a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, after gaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Idaho.  Vic grew up in and around New Meadows Idaho and played football, basketball and ran track for and graduated from New Meadows High School.

Vic married Charlotte Campbell in 1958 and they set up house in Walla Walla Washington where they raised their two daughters Anita and Tina along with numerous dogs and horses.

Vic worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years finishing his career there as the Chief of the Planning Division.  After retiring from the Corps in 1991, Vic and Charlotte returned to their roots in New Meadows and established the BV cattle ranch.  Looking after the cattle and managing the land was a source of deep satisfaction for Vic.

Vic worked hard his entire life, in his view there was no other way to work.  His hard work was matched by his generosity and sense of fun.  He enjoyed golf in the summer and was an avid skier up until just a couple of years ago.  The impact Vic has had on his four grandsons is profound and will be with them their whole lives helping them navigate life’s challenges.  In both his actions and his words Vic showed these young men there was nothing more important than family and what it means to live that every day.

Vic was a long-term supporter of the Idaho Youth Ranch as an institution and in its approach and mission to support and provide a healing environment for young people.  In addition, Vic was an avid supporter of the University of Idaho and provided scholarships for deserving youths. Throughout his life Vic mentored young people who found him a steady and reliable guide emphasizing the value of education and the virtue of hard work.

Vic distinguished himself in the Toastmasters Club in Walla Walla and was a lifelong member and supporter of the United Methodist Church both in Walla Walla and New Meadows.

Vic is survived by his wife of 63 years Charlotte, Ronnie (brother) and Cathy Armacost, Rollie (brother) and  Darlene Armacost, Anita (daughter) and Bob Wentworth, Tina (daughter) and Mark Alexieff, Avery (grandson) Phenix and Aurora Zuck, Austin (grandson) Olivia and Henry Zuck, Peter (grandson) Alexieff and Campbell (grandson) Alexieff.
