Linda Marie Shortley, 70, of McCall, Idaho passed away on December 19, four days after her 49th wedding anniversary, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  She passed away peacefully, without pain, and with her husband by her side.

Linda was born in McKees Rocks, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA, on March 3, 1952.  She graduated from Sto-Rox High School in 1970 and began working at the Pittsburgh Press newspaper in the classified section.

In 1971 she met her soul mate, Bill Shortley, at The Grove in Castle Shannon, PA. (an 18+ night club and dance hall).  It was a match made in heaven.  Linda always said she could never stay mad at Bill because he would simply tease her out of it, affectionately calling her Funky Winkerbean and Norton, while she called him Dirtball.  They married two and a half years later on December 15, 1973. Just after marriage, Linda moved to Fairfax, Virginia where she lived with her new husband, who was a policeman in Washington, D.C., and she began working as a bank teller.  A year later they moved to Arlington, VA, and she started working as a secretary at an appliance store in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C.  Two years later, they moved to California where her husband started a career with the LAPD.  Linda became a secretary with Transamerica Insurance in Los Angeles.  Three years later after moving to the beach, she had their oldest child, Jeffrey, and began her life’s goal of being a “stay at home mom.”  Two years later she had their second child, Lisa.  While her children were still young she also was a daycare provider for her friend’s two children.  Marriage was fulfilling and fun, and she loved being a mother to Jeff and Lisa.

While living in Laguna Niguel, CA, Jeff started middle school and she began working part time for two New York Life Insurance agents. A few years later, she graduated with an Administrative Assistant certificate from Saddleback Community College.  Upon graduation, she was hired as an administrative assistant for the dean of the Business School.  She remained in the position until she and her husband both retired and moved to McCall, ID.  Linda always referred to her home in McCall as a treehouse surrounded by beautiful forest and a beautiful lake.

Linda is survived by her loving family, including her husband Bill, son Jeff, daughter Lisa (Nathan) McCormick, grandchildren Kayli and Connor McCormick, mother Marilyn Bobro, sisters Janet (Harry) Kuruce, Susan (Robbi) Ejzak, Mary Kay Wiser, and Ruth (Jeff) Elm, brother Henry D. (Linda) Bobro, and nieces, nephews and dear, loving friends.

Linda is preceded in death by her father, Henry S. Bobro.

Linda lived a life of love and blessings and is ever grateful for her family and all the wonderful friends in her life.  Please celebrate that life with her family.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by McCall Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held December 29 @ 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in McCall.
